How Safe Do You Feel Going To Hospital To Be Cured
There has been a lot of concern in Australia over the performance of an overseas trained Doctor that had been made Director of Surgery in a regional city.
Currently there is a Commission of Inquiry into the allegations that have been made against this Doctor and in the interim report that has been released and passed to the State Government, there are serious concerns that this Doctor could face charges of Murder, because at the moment, there is evidence that at least 87 people have died as a result of surgery performed by this Doctor.
The accusations are that he was performing surgery that was completely above his abilities and the facilities of the hospital concerned, all deaths are considered to be the result of botched surgery.
This doctor had already been banned from performing surgery in the United States, his records were obviously not fully checked when he got the position in Australia. He has now fled the country and he is believed to be living in the United States once again. There are hundreds of people here that have been operated on by this doctor, and their life has never been the same again, a large number requiring further surgery to relieve the problems caused by previous surgery.
I know that there are many good doctors and surgeons out there that do wonderful work, and millions of lives have been saved by the efforts of these great men and women.
However, there is also concern about a report just released in Australia which states that on average about 50 people die per day in Australia as a result of botched surgery.
Australia is considered to have a world-class health system and that doctors here are up with the best of them.
What concerns me is that if we have 50 per day dying with a population of 20 millions, is this also happening in other civilized nations with a greater population, It does not say much for world health.
If you have any doubts about the doctor that has fled the country, just look in any search engine for Doctor Jayant Patel.
The local Police Chief of Jamnagar, the town in India, where this doctor originated, states in a Newspaper, "This is very big news in Australia where life has more value, but it is of less interest here". I think that's sums up the story very well; I am just very pleased that I am not living there.
